FAQs

  • Therapy or counseling is a collaboration between you and your therapist with the goal of helping you feel happier, more grounded and living more in alignment with your goals and values.  Therapy can help you change behaviors that are limiting or harming your quality of life or your relationships.  The process can also help you resolve anxiety, depression and pain from past trauma.  You can use therapy to learn new tools for healthy relationships and to work through relationship challenges.  Your therapist will offer you a safe place to discuss your experiences and feelings, and can provide you with insight, resources, and guidance to help you achieve your goals.

There are many different types of therapy.  Here at Root to Rise Therapy, our therapists use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness, EMDR, Psychodynamic Therapy, the Humanistic Approach, Attachment Theory, The Gottman Method, and Emotionally Focused Therapy.  You can read more about each of those on the linked pages, but if it all feels too overwhelming, just give us a call and we can match you with the right therapist.

  • Therapy is more than having another person be a listening ear. Your therapist will help you identify patterns of behavior, and will offer suggestions for improving your life and relationships. However, it’s a collaborative process and your therapist will not tell you what to do. You must make your own choices, and your therapist will assist through providing encouragement, skill building, resources, and tools. Some people want to be assigned homework and specific tasks, and others want less direct intervention. Speak with your therapist and she will tailor your therapy to your needs within the realm of the services she offers. Please read this blog post about What to Expect in Your First Session.

  • Our therapists specialize in caring for the caretakers. If you are always helping others and wondering when it’s your turn to receive some help, the time is now! If you’re experiencing anxiety or depression, are going through big life changes, want to work through past trauma, or are struggling in your relationship, our therapists would love to work with you. Root to Rise Therapy is founded on the idea that when we are firmly grounded and rooted within ourselves, we can rise up to be the best possible version of ourselves.

  • We have both in person and video (telehealth) sessions available. Your first session will always be by telehealth (virtual session over Zoom). If in person sessions are important to you going forward, you can speak to your therapist at that time about her openings and availability at the office.

  • Licensed therapist rates are $250/50 min session for individuals and $300/50 min session for couples & family counseling.

Associate therapist rates are $150/50 min session for individuals and $200/50 min session for couples & family counseling.

Our therapist’s rates reflect their experience, education, and approach to individualized, compassionate care.  However, they do offer sliding scale rates (reduced fees) on a limited basis to make therapy more accessible to those who would not otherwise be able to afford it.  Please contact our Client Care Coordinator to find out more.

  • We are out of network with all insurance plans, but if your insurance will reimburse you for your out-of-network therapy expenses, we can provide you with an invoice called a superbill that you can submit to them.  We have also partnered with Mentaya, a service that submits superbills on your behalf and streamlines getting reimbursed.  Click here to see if you qualify, or contact your insurer for specific details about your coverage and how to obtain reimbursement for your therapy session. Read this blog post before you call your insurance company to make sure you’re asking them all of the right questions.

  • Sessions are 50 minutes unless otherwise determined in advance of the sessions. We often recommend that for an initial couples counseling session, we book a 75 or 100 minute session as there often is so much to cover at the beginning.

  • Treatment begins with weekly sessions, but people often drop back to biweekly sessions as they begin to feel better. We will occasionally see clients for monthly "tune-up" sessions to maintain gains made in counseling. This can all be discussed directly with your therapist in a collaborative treatment approach.

  • We recommend a minimum of 10-12 sessions to start seeing results. This gives you and your therapist a chance to build a rapport, gives the therapist the opportunity to offer you suggestions and allows you time to try out those suggestions and see how they work in your life. Therapy is a collaborative process. and you and the therapist will continually check-in on your progress towards your goals. We will recommend that a client reduce frequency of sessions when it is clear that they have significantly reduced suffering and have significant improvement in their daily lives and relationships. It becomes clear that you have graduated from the therapy process when you feel that you have achieved your therapy goals, improved your quality of life, and feel satisfied in areas such as work, love, and health. This can be a wonderful time in therapy to explore all the progress and gains made and then begin discussing a plan for wrapping up and maintaining gains.

  • This depends on the issues you are facing. If you feel that the problems in your relationship are due to personal issues such as substance use, depression, anxiety, anger, or a history of trauma, we might recommend individual counseling instead of or in addition to couples counseling. Couples counseling works best when both partners are equally committed to the relationship and willing to heal and grow personally and together, but are presenting with communication issues and behavioral patterns that are frustrating and defeating. If one partner feels fully committed and the other is questioning their commitment, this may be a situation in which we recommend individual counseling
