ABOUT SOPHIA

Sophia Rodriguez
Associate Marriage & Family Therapist

Sophia Rodriguez is an EMDR-trained Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (AMFT #141267) specializing in trauma, grief, anxiety, depression, grief, identity development, depression, and relationship issues.

Sophia provides counseling with a psychodynamic approach for individuals, couples, families, and adolescents. In sessions with Sophia, clients can expect to feel welcome and heard. She holds an unconditional positive regard for her clients and leads with kindness, empathy, and respect. As a Cuban-American, Sophia provides services in both English and Spanish and is passionate about working with individuals across diverse backgrounds.

SOPHIA'S APPROACH IS INCLUSIVE, AUTHENTIC, GROUNDING, AND STEADFAST.

Sophia believes our experiences, including our upbringing, childhood, and family, interact with one another to create a beautiful mosaic of our identity. She is curious and passionate about learning the pieces of life that contributed to who her clients are today. Sophia focuses on healing past wounds to improve present day experiences, and she supports clients in creating fulfilling relationships with healthy attachment. Sophia walks alongside clients to help prioritize goals and expand their toolboxes with resources that support growth and enhance quality of life.

Sophia is a person-centered therapist who aims to build a strong therapeutic alliance with clients. She tailors her treatment plans to each client's specific needs and works with them to reach their desired outcome. Sophia incorporates EMDR into sessions and uses a trauma-informed lens to heal past wounds, highlight strengths and resiliencies, and create room for growth in the present. Trained in a Psychodynamic framework, Sophia focuses on uncovering the subconscious experience to bring it to the conscious mind. She also incorporates aspects of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Internal Family Systems, and Attachment-Based Therapy. With couples, she often focuses on communication, trust, and intimacy.

Sophia believes that healing means feeling and emphasizes a connection to emotions with a somatic focus. Outside of therapy, Sophia is a Certified Yoga Teacher and applies her knowledge of breathwork and the mind-body connection to her therapeutic treatment plans. In sessions, Sophia often guides her clients in breath work, mindfulness practices, and meditations.

Sophia received clinical training and internship experience at Airport Marina Counseling Service in Los Angeles, where she worked with a diverse range of clients from ages 9 to 70. She holds a B.A. in Psychology and a Masters in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy from Pepperdine University. Prior to her graduate work at Pepperdine, Sophia worked for Homeward Bound with young adolescents in their transition home from intensive treatment. She understands the loneliness we can experience as we undergo change, and she aims to provide a constant safe space throughout the transitions that her clients face.

In her free time, Sophia enjoys running, skiing, and hiking. She grew up in the mountains of Colorado and loves the outdoors. She advocates for self-care and practices her own through yoga, journaling, and time with loved ones.

Sophia works under the license and supervision of Becky White, LMFT #93760.

“I really enjoy our sessions. I feel so supported by Sophia and it is so reassuring to always have someone in your corner. She has helped me through so many issues and I can’t thank her enough.”
