ABOUT MEGAN

Megan Smith
Associate Marriage & Family Therapist

Megan Smith is an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (AMFT #151039) who works with individuals and couples, specializing in the treatment of anxiety, depression, OCD, self-regulation challenges, and relational difficulties. She is passionate about helping her clients build confidence and resilience, develop healthy habits, and discover tools to enhance their relationship with self and loved ones.

Megan provides a supportive space that feels compassionate, empowering, creative, and even a little fun. Her approach to treatment is collaborative and guided by her clients values, needs and goals.

Her therapeutic goal is to guide, encourage, and challenge her clients toward building a life that feels more meaningful and authentic to them. This includes maintaining an environment where clients can continue to bring their whole, unique, and evolving self into the room.

Her integrative and non-pathologizing approach is grounded in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Dialectal Behavioral Therapy, and Internal Family Systems. She also draws on somatic based approaches and incorporates mindfulness to help her clients build a deeper connection with their emotions and felt presence. For relational and couples work, Megan is trained in Gottman Level 1 and Emotionally Focused Therapy, which helps couples address, confront and heal the heart of what matters to them.

Megan believes that therapy is a co-constructed experience that can hold the full spectrum of joy and pain. She is often described by other clinicians as compassionate, caring and hopeful.

In addition, Megan has extensive experience and training with Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) aimed at treating OCD, phobias and many anxiety-related disorders. She works with clients to address specific triggers, understand the complex nature of OCD and anxiety and move away from avoidance and emotion-based behaviors that are keeping clients stuck.

Megan holds a Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology with an emphasis in Marriage & Family Therapy from California State University, Long Beach (CSULB). She also received her bachelor's degree in Psychology at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD). Her clinical experience ranges from teens to adults, as well as families and couples in both non-profit and private practice settings.
